Am in the same boat as you man, my tranny is starting to slip so i guess its time for a rebuild. I don't know exactly what i am going to do yet, either buy a new trans or rebuild it. So far I have seen rebuilding prices from 700-900 bucks and new trans from 1100-2800$ for a 4L60e. The good news for you is that its cheaper for 93-97 than LS1 cars. The other option is getting a used one from a wrecking yard, I have seen 93-97 camaros n firebirds before...

There is a guy on craigslist his name is Chris and he rebuilds and sells em too he has one for your car for 700$. His number is 240-9261.

Hope this helps, let me know if you find somebody to rebuild it for cheaper.

It probably depends on what your plans are for the car and how you are using it. I have to say an auto with stall is better at the track than a manual. That's just my opinion, and that's if you hang out at the track. After dealing with rush hour traffic in AZ a few too many times, I don't ever want to HAVE to drive a manual as a dd. It didn't help that I had a race clutch and it was very stiff, but an auto is so much simpler IMO. Good luck.

If you mainly use the car for around town & want the best set-up for drag racing put a powerglide in it that will probably handle all the power you would ever want to throw at it for about what a complete rebuild would cost you on a O.D. tranny... on the other hand if you do a lot of freeway driving & need that extra gear & don't do too much racing a manual is pretty fun around town IMO...
